4 Winter Holidays That Are Best For Families

Planning any family holiday requires a lot of planning and consideration of everyone’s needs. Getting away during the winter is no different.

There are many destinations that will be perfect for a winter getaway. Skiing in Europe is perfect for getting your adrenaline fix, whereas a Norwegian fjords cruise is better for those who want to relax. Here are four options for your next family winter holiday.

Skiing in Europe

Europe is home to several world-class ski resorts, many of which are perfect for skiers of all ages and abilities. Whether you are experienced and looking for the adrenaline hit from a challenging run or a bit more cautious and wanting to take a slower route, skiing is a great workout and comes with heaps of fun.

When thinking about your family, you may need certain amenities such as ski schools, off-slope activities and beginner slopes. Obergurgl in Austria has all of these features and more, making it the perfect family ski holiday destination.

The Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are made up of seven main islands, each with a unique vibe. Offering year-long sunshine, they are the perfect destination for a bit of winter sun.

Tenerife is perhaps the most well-known island. There is plenty to do including water parks, wildlife parks and long, sandy beaches for days when you want to relax a bit more. A lot of the accommodation in Tenerife is geared for families of all configurations so you can be sure when booking that your needs will be catered for.

Some families with older kids may be looking for a quieter place to relax. In this case, head to Fuerteventura instead. The north of the island in particular tends to be less touristy, meaning you get a more authentic experience – though you would be advised to hire a car to get around.

Norwegian Fjords Cruise

Cruises are not the first type of holiday that springs to mind when you think of family holidays, but they can be just as incredible.

Winter cruises can either take you to warmer climes or you can embrace the cold and head north. A Norwegian fjords cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will create heartwarming memories for all the family.

As you cruise through the snowcapped landscape you may be treated to breathtaking sights such as the famous Northern Lights. Some cruise lines offer wildlife spotting trips which are magical for all ages – keep an eye out for orcas hunting or seals relaxing on the ice floes.

If you find the cold a bit much, cruise ships offer plenty of indoor activities to keep the chill away. Some ships have cinemas, live entertainment and even arcades and bowling alleys.

Finding Sun Further Afield

If you are set on banishing the winter blues, you may need to travel a bit further afield. Destinations such as the Maldives or Florida offer high temperatures, almost guaranteed sunshine and a host of family-friendly activities.

Florida is home to some world-famous theme parks which promise an action-packed trip. Your little ones can even meet their favourite film and TV characters which always makes for a great experience.

The Maldives on the other hand offers luxurious resorts withtop-tier kids clubs which allow adults to relax too. You can also take part in some water sports such as jet skiing, surfing and snorkelling.
