It’s tropical smoothie time!
What better way to brighten up your day than with a pineapple, mango and banana tropical smoothie? Especially with the grey, dull days we often get in the summer over here in the UK!
This recipe has been inspired by the fruit eaten for breakfast in Angola: pineapples, mangoes and bananas. I’ve blended it with natural yoghurt so it’s ultra creamy yet still healthy. A little bit of ice has been added to keep this healthy smoothie, nice and cool!
Why should I make a tropical smoothie?
- Transport yourself to the tropical poolside with these delicious flavours!
- SO simple to make!
- Only FIVE ingredients.
- Makes for a healthy breakfast.
See my post on how to eat like an Angolan for more information on what you would eat over in Angola!
Ingredients for a tropical smoothie
- Pineapple – slice the pineapple into chunks to make the blending a bit more manageable.
- Mango – see this guide from Feel Good Foodie on how to cut a mango properly. It’s really helpful!
- Banana – sliced banana will help thicken the smoothie and obviously give a lovely creaminess as well as yummy flavour!
- Natural yoghurt – to help blend the ingredients. You could also use a dairy-free yoghurt such as almond, coconut or soy to make this a vegan tropical smoothie.
- Ice cubes – the ice cubes make this smoothie lovely and refreshing.
Equipment Needed
- Chopping board
- Chef’s knife for cutting the fruit
- Dessert spoon
- A blender such as a Nutribullet (this is what I used)
How to make a vegan smoothie
This tropical smoothie uses natural yoghurt to blend together the fruit, however if you’re looking for a dairy-free smoothie or a vegan smoothie, why not try the following alternatives to yoghurt:
Bear in mind that using milk will make your smoothies a lot thinner in consistency. Yoghurt and ice cream will ensure they are thick.
- Oat milk
- Coconut yoghurt
- Almond milk
- Soy-based yoghurt
- Almond yoghurt
- Coconut milk
- Vegan ice cream such as Jude’s vegan vanilla bean (soya and oat); The Coconut Collaborative Coconut and Vanilla ice cream (coconut milk) and Oatly ice cream (oat milk).
